Description: I was tasked to create an artists' book, or a sculptural work of art that contains elements of a book or ultimately retains the function of a book. When I read a book I feel as though I am transported into a different world, so I really wanted to bring that concept to life. I created a reading nook that also functions as a book. It looks like a book, with a cover on both sides and book pages on the inside, but also functions as a book because it transports you into a different space. I enjoyed being able to create a structure that serves as a little escape from the outside world, a space that is aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.
The top images are photos of my sketchbook during my ideation phase. I created my idea, then revised it, then planned measurements for the structure I wanted to make.
